The Campaign
The Aeolus Calibration/Validation Test Flight Campaign (Aeolus Cal/Val) was a collaborative effort between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) to validate observations from the ESA Atmospheric Dynamics Mission-Aeolus (ADM-Aeolus) satellite. Aeolus Cal/Val conducted a single deployment in April 2019 over the eastern Pacific Ocean. The NASA DC-8 aircraft was equipped with Doppler Aerosol WiNd Lidar (DAWN) and High Altitude Lidar Observatory (HALO) to gather profile measurements of winds and aerosols. These measurements were used to help validate aerosol and wind profiles derived from ADM-Aeolus satellite observations.
